I, Robot

Japanese roboticist Hiroshi Ishiguro clones himself, android-style. His incredibly lifelike mechanical double, "Geminoid HI-1," sometimes takes his place in meetings and classes.

Hiroshi Ishiguro poses with his android clone, Geminoid HI-1. Constructed of silicone and steel and powered by pressurized air and small actuators, Ishiguro's life-size doppelgänger is uncannily realistic since it was made from casts taken from the roboticist's body.
Ishiguro unveils his android clone Thursday at the ATR Intelligent Robotics and Communication Laboratories in Keihanna Science City, Japan, where he works as a researcher. Ishiguro designed Geminoid so he could "robot in" to classes at Osaka University.

Ishiguro's android mimics the roboticist's actions, with micromovements -- such as shoulders that rise gently to simulate breathing -- making it difficult to believe Geminoid is a machine.

A Geminoid operator wears motion-tracking lip markers. When the operator moves his mouth, Geminoid's lips make the same movement. A speaker inside the android lets the robotic double be heard.

Some amazing new techology with lots of possible implecations. Imagine creating a new robot to mine in hazardous areas thats controlled by a persons movements or a bomb desposal robot that can be controlled by an expert. Lots of thing can come from this type of technology.
